Mary Simpson

An image of Mary SimpsonMary Simpson is a governance and financial expert who has worked in the Regional Municipality of Durham’s Finance department for more than 25 years. In her current position as the Region’s Director of Financial Planning and Purchasing, she oversees long-term financial planning and procurement for the Region across all program areas.  She also develops, co-ordinates and implements financial policy and procedures that support corporate-wide business planning and management. She leads, directs and co-ordinates multi-disciplinary interdepartmental project teams on a variety of complex special projects, and develops and implements recommendations, policies, processes and risk-mitigation strategies.

Prior to joining the Regional Municipality of Durham, she was an Economic Analyst with Consumers Gas Company in Scarborough, Ontario, and a Research Assistant, Load Forecasts with the Economics and Forecasts Division of Ontario Hydro in Toronto, Ontario.

Simpson holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (Certified Management Accountant) designation, a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics and Mathematics from Glendon College, York University. She previously served on the Board of Governors for Durham College.
