Mary Steele

An image of Mary SteeleMary Steele joined the university’s Human Resources department on April 4, 2011.  As Manager of Pension, Benefits and Wellness, she is responsible for the administration of the university’s Pension, Benefit and Wellness programs for all full-time faculty and staff. She earned her Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation from Dalhousie University and a Legal Administration Certificate from Ryerson University. She also completed the Canadian Securities course and earned her Personal Financial Planner designation through the Canadian Securities Institute.

She is the Chair of the Pension and Benefits Committee and the university’s Healthy Workplace Committee (HWC). Under her leadership, the HWC received a Healthy Workplace Award (Gold category) from the Regional Municipality of Durham’s Health Department three years in a row. 

Prior to joining the university, she was a Pension Advisor at the Royal Bank of Canada. She has more than 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors specializing in pensions and benefits administration, policy and strategy.
